Who was she talking about?

This is another post in response to Wilma's post.  

At first I thought that Wilma had another brother who had died.   All those nice things that she said - but who was she talking about?   But there were some stories in there that confirmed that it was me - the bending back of the toes.

Well again she had no pictures.    I thought it would be awkward to post your own pictures but here are two just so I don't let Wilma down.

Happy Birthday Mom!

Today is my mom's birthday.   Wilma posted pictures on her blog so I wasn't sure what I was going to do.    If you check my last couple entries were pictures in response to Wilma's blog.  Let's pretend that Wilma didn't post those pictures.  Here the ones I would have posted.

In response to Wilma's blog on Memorial Day

Wilma had a nice tribute to Grandpa Shimbashi on her blog on Memorial Day.   She didn't have any pictures of Grandpa so I thought I might try to help her out.

I think this was taken in Welling.   I always remember mom pointing out the tree that was by their house in Welling when we drove by on the highway.   I was kind of sad yesterday when Judy and I drove by on our way to Raymond from Cardston.   The tree is gone.  I wish I would have taken a picture one of it one of those many times we drove by.

This is one of my favorite pictures of Grandpa.  This is what I remember him looking like.   

  

  

One picture I wish I had was the one where he is in his uniform.  Its the one that is (or at least was) on display in the Military Museum in Calgary.

   

  

I did a google search and I found that Grandpa was in the CBC Alberta 100.

   

The Alberta 100 is an hour-long documentary celebrating the province’s centennial and honoring some of the most notable figures of Alberta’s history. Hosted by Ron MacLean, The Alberta 100 counts down cattle barons and oil tycoons, aboriginal leaders and hearty settlers, Innovative visionaries and spirited statesmen.

He was #79.  Check out the list here.    I don't know if they were in any special order but he was ahead of people like Wayne Gretzky (#99 - how appropriate).   I saw that Uncle Ed was also a nominee.

 He really was a pioneer in many ways.   What a great heritage we have.    Thanks Wilma for helping me appreciate the blessings of family that we enjoy.

Happy Mother's Day Mom

Sorry its late, but I wanted to do a post for my mom for Mother's day. Wilma did a good job with a tribute on her blog but she didn't have any pictures. I don't have the words, but here are some pictures.

She became a nurse

   

Then got married

  

And became a mom to these cute kids

   

Years passed and these kids started to get married

  

Then she became a grandmother

   

Again and again and again.....

  

The family continued to grow...

   

And grow...

And grow...

   

She's now a great grandmother and the family continues to grow - add 2 great grandsons since this picture was taken.

You have always been there to support us. Even in the rain.

(but you didn't get into it like the lady on the right - thanks for that too).
