Salt Lake City Temple
In our Church we have General Conference twice a year. Its an opportunity for all of the members Worldwide to listen to our leaders. It takes place in Salt Lake City and is broadcast around the world. We are watching it over the internet in our home.
President Thomas S. Monson, our prophet, was the first speaker. In his talk he announced 5 new temples. Tears of joy and gratitude came to my eyes as he named Calgary, Alberta Canada as one of the new location. We are thrilled and look forward to having a temple close to home. I'm excited to hear more details.
Up to now we have been traveling to Cardston or Edmonton to go to the temple.
As members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints we believe that the temple is the "House of the Lord." We do not hold our regular Sunday worship meetings in the Temple. It is a sacred building where we can learn more about the purpose of life and make covenants to serve Jesus Christ and our fellow man. In addition, we participate in religious ceremonies that reach beyond mortality, such as baptisms on behalf of deceased ancestors and eternal marriage.
